The report, written by two Oxford Professors, Sir Richard Peto and Sir Richard Doll gives the following risk snapshot.
This study found that among men who continue to smoke -
The risk of death from lung cancer before the age of 75 was 16%.
For those who quit at age 50 the risk was 6%.
For those who quit at age 30 the risk was 2%
There are about 10 million smokers in Britain and about 5 million will be killed by tobacco if they don't stop!
Smoking is still the biggest cause of premature death in Britain, with 6 million tobacco related deaths over the last 50 years.
